MODEL MAKEOVERS & PHOTOSHOOTS
Where are AJS Photographic based?
We have two studios in Hampshire with the main location in Lowford and the second in Hedge End, Southampton. Both within easy reach of the motorway (M27) or public transport with train and bus stations nearby.
How far in advance do I have to book?
We only offer 3 shoots per day, so early booking is advised. If you are going for a makeover, then its a good idea to have it done four weeks or so before any special occasion. We are happy to book a year in advance as things do tend to get busy around Christmas, Valentines and throughout the wedding season.
Do I have to be a model to do a photoshoot?
No and you don’t need to have any previous modelling experience as our photoshoots are for everyone. Many girls simply come to us for just a little confidence boost or a gift for a partner etc.
How old do I have to be?
Over 18, unless a parent attends session.
Can I bring a friend?
If accompanied to the shoot, please invite your friend or driver to come in to meet the team and tour the studio with you for a moment. Due to the chance of unsupervised theft, they will be asked to wait for you off premises whist the shoot takes place..
How long does a Shoot Last?
This can vary, from only 1.5 hours for the “First Timers Shoot” to a whole day (8 hours) for the “Complete Portfolio Day”. One of the most popular packages is the “Standard Shoot” and this lasts 2.5 to 3 hours if you also book a make-up artist.
How many outfits can I bring?
Depends on the shoot package you have selected, but we would suggest a minimum of eight outfits and we can then help you select on the day. Its always best to try and choose interesting outfits with a good mix of different styles.
Casual – Skirts, hot pants, jeans, t-shirts.
Smart – Evening dress, ball gown, high heels etc.
Lingerie – If you want to go for a boudoir shoot.
Ensure that your clothes are in good condition, no holes/bubbled and ironed if required and ready to shoot.
Please also feel free to bring some dress jewellery, shades, hats or scarfs for example as these can also be used to add detail to the images.
Do you offer Makeovers?
Yes, we have a professional female make-up artist who can be booked to do your make-up and dry hair styling before the shoot to give you that little extra pampering.
Hair, makeup and nails?
If you decide that you want to do your own makeup, please try and go for smokey eyes, bring a good selection of lipsticks/gloss and try to ensure you have manicured nails if possible.
We would strongly advise against the use of false tanning products due to inconsistent results and the fact that studio lights can and will emphasis any flaws or dark patches.
What Modeling style should I choose?
The following descriptions are the generally accepted genres of modelling levels.
Please instruct us of the levels you wish to work to before the shoot if at all possible as different lighting may be needed depending on what style you choose. These definitions can be good guidelines for new models.
This is a broad based category that covers day to day clothing and evening wear. It’s important that the clothes you choose to wear suit your look and are a good fit. This category can be applied to all ages from children to adults and from jeans to skirts.
This is the standard head and shoulder type of photograph although a portrait can be a full body shot. It generally has strong lighting and is designed to bring out the best in a person’s looks. A plain backdrop is often used. These shots are sometimes used for as framed gifts for Christmas and birthday presents.
This is by its nature a more revealing type of modelling. Models do not need to be stick thin to have a lingerie shoot but should feel comfortable in front of the camera. The same may be said of swimwear which may be considered under the same category. Lingerie modelling is seen as the safe but sexy choice for many first time photo shoots.
Glamour is probably the most misunderstood form of modelling. This type of photography is basically the very sexy side of lingerie and often involves stockings, hold ups and very revealing underwear. Models may also be topless during a glamour shoot. This is not to be confused with asking the photographer to make you look glamorous! This kind of modelling is probably the most asked for as aspiring models seek to appear in the pages of men’s magazines such as Zoo and Nuts. Over 18’s only.
Although you will be topless for the shoot, this is not revealing and only suggestive. There is no need to show the photographer anything that is uncovered although the photographer may need to guide you to the best possible positions and poses so nothing is shown in the final shot. This is a very popular type of photography for boudoir type shoots. Over 18’s only.
Unlike implied work, you will be topless for these shots. Models often incorporate a few topless shots during a shoot just to say they have done it. It is important to be confident in front of a photographer you probably haven’t met before if you are considering a topless shoot. Over 18’s only.
The essence of the photograph will be suggestive of nudity, but not revealing in any way. A typical example would be where the model is taking a shower but no directly revealing shots are shown or a model is lying on a bed but the clever use of bedding will add a hint of suggestion to the shot. Over 18s only.
Full nude or artistic nude is a form of nudity that is tasteful in the nature of the poses, but is still revealing. This work is sometimes shot in black and white or with special lighting effects. Over 18’s only.
The above list only covers the specific areas/styles where AJS Photographic work and is by no means comprehensive.
